The aggravated situation at the Kakavija border-crossing point has been eased this evening after talks and an agreement between the Albanian and Greek Government to open more counters and receive more citizens by the neighboring state.
The Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka and the General Director of Civil Emergencies Haki Çako were on the ground and closely followed the situation.
Regarding the aggravated situation, the Defense Minister said that the situation could not be resolved immediately due to the measures that the neighboring state has imposed at its border point and this cannot be changed, but an agreement was reached for the Greek side to accelerate work and to resolve the situation as soon as possible.
The citizens waiting to cross the border are given assistance not only with water and food, but also with medical assistance. The Minister of Defense has called on the citizens to be patient and understand that the situation of CoViD-19 complicates many processes making the situation difficult.
"It is our duty to be with you in the best possible way, in this situation we face today. We are helping with everything we could. Remember that the Coronavirus has paralyzed the whole world today. This pandemic has paralyzed every activity. There is no tendency on the Greek side to make things difficult, but there are rules that have been set." - said Xhaçka.
Meanwhile, the General Director of Civil Emergencies said that all state structures are made available to resolve the situation.
There are over 200 members of the Armed Forces at the Kakavija border-crossing to aid the citizens and to supply them with food and masks.
