The fire hearths on the Sazan island and Mirdita region are neutralized

The fire hearths on Sazan Island are neutralized after the continuous work from land and air interventions.

122 effectives of the Armed Forces, 9 vehicles, and 2 ships were engaged in the operation launched three days ago to extinguish the fire. The air intervention started this morning. Canadair Cl - 415 joined our forces, as support by Greece, in the framework of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism. The situation in Sazan Island is under control, even though effectives are still working to avoid any possible re-ignition of flame.

Meanwhile, 54 members of the Armed Forces joined the firefighting forces in the operation of extinguishing the fire hearths in Orosh, Administrative Unit of Mirdita.

During the operation which finalized in a record time, it was possible to avoid the flames from spreading near the buildings.

The Ministry of Defense expressed gratitude for the job of all engaged teams and called on citizens, and tourists to be careful because in this season fires are expected to be numerous, as this summer is predicted to be hot and the risk of fires remains evident.

Meanwhile, heartfelt thanks to the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism for the support, and to Greece for the immediate response with Canadair aircraft.
