Tour of emergencies awareness meetings, Defence Minister Niko Peleshi starts from Korça

Defence Minister Niko Peleshi, accompanied by the Director of the Civil Protection Agency Haki Çako has started from Korça a tour of meetings with the structures of Civil Emergencies, mayors and prefects that will continue throughout the country. The purpose of these meetings is to raise awareness of local units for early detection and eliminate potential fires to prevent the degradation of situations especially during the summer season.

"First of all, I ask for your understanding and cooperation in a civil manner and secondly in a legal manner. It can no longer continue that a fire starts somewhere, the municipality pretends not to see it, waits for the fire to have an inherent dimension and then calls for the helicopter. This is what has happened so far. We will do our part, also to increase the readiness of the helicopters, we have very good news from the commissioner of civil emergencies, to whom we submitted the official application to become a member of the European Mechanism. We have received the assurance that they will respond to us, because sometimes neither 2 helicopters, nor 5, nor fleets are enough when the fires are spread throughout Albania as they were last year and as we predict they will be this year as well.", - said in front of the local leaders the Defence Minister Niko Peleshi.

Minister Peleshi proposed that the work should start with educating the communities to react in such cases, a work that should start from the heads of the communities. He instructed prefects to set up Civil Emergency structures so that municipalities can benefit from the government budget. Defence Minister has allocated this year 10 million dollars for civil emergencies for municipalities, a fund that according to the Defence Minister has not been used properly everywhere.
