On the 79th Anniversary of the Borova Massacre, the Ministry of Defense granted the status of 'Martyr of the Motherland' to 107 fallen civilians. The Defense Minister Niko Peleshi was present at the event that commemorated this shocking moment in the history of Albania.
The Mayor of Cologne, Erion Isai, thanked the Defense Minister Niko Peleshi for signing this act, which came after several years of effort, while he expressed the good will of the local and central authorities for the restructuring of the museum.
On July 6, 1943, the partisan formations attacked the Nazi forces at Barmashi Bridge. The German army as revenge burned Borova, where 107 civilians were killed and massacred in one day.
After this activity, Minister Peleshi responded to the media questions on the situation of fires in the country.
"We are entering summer hot days and as we have warned that it will be as hot as last year, if not hotter. I make this appeal first to the communities and local units, as they are responsible for maintaining and administering their territory. It is very important that municipalities and the fire service signal in time, because where municipalities are more cooperative and the signaling happens in time we don't have big fires. If they choose to “sleep” you know how the story goes; when the flames take over the mountain, they call for a helicopter. I appeal to all mayors to do their duty. There are no vacations this year for mayors, neither for the Armed Forces, nor for the Ministry of Defense.", - said Mr. Peleshi.
The minister said that in the last two weeks, 16 new fire engines have been added to the municipal fleet, while a project of 30 million Euros, a donation from Germany, will soon be activated.
