The defense ministers appreciated the importance of the "Adrion Initiative (Adriatic - Ionian Initiative), as a successful example of regional cooperation, based on inclusiveness, common values and the orientation of common interests to guarantee security and stability in the Adriatic - Ionian area. Special attention was paid to the importance of interaction and cooperation between the naval forces of this initiative, with the aim of increasing maritime security, humanitarian assistance, search and rescue, capacity building as well as supporting NATO and EU operations in the Adrion area.

During his speech, Minister Peleshi said that the Ministry of Defense and the Navy of our country are always more engaged in strengthening the cooperation in the region in order to face current and future challenges, as well as promote regional stability, security and peace: “Albania will fully engage itself to provide a safe environment for a wider stability in the Western Balkans and the common maritime spaces. The Adrion initiative is one of the mechanisms contributing to this objective. The Adriatic-Ionian region is an increasingly accessible environment for all kinds of malicious activities and is one of the most sensitive transit and infiltration points in the heart of Europe. Therefore, our regional cooperation must be at the highest level in order to provide security and stability to our people. Albania and its Navy are always committed to further cooperation in the region. We must all continue to play an active role in addressing the security challenges as well as the issues of the economic prosperity and political stability. And this can be achieved only by working together”, - emphasized Minister Peleshi.

In Venice, as part of the Adrion initiative, the "Regional Symposium of Naval Powers" is being held, in which the commanders of the naval forces of the member countries of this initiative are participating.

“Adrion" is an initiative which aims at the cooperation between the Naval Forces of Albania, Croatia, Greece, Italy, Montenegro and Slovenia.
