Experts from Brussels attend the training on emergencies in Tirana, following Albania’s membership in the EU Civil Protection Mechanism

A group of DG-Echos experts from Brussels are in Tirana, to participate in a two-day workshop, organized by the NACP and in cooperation with operational structures, line ministries, two prefectures, the State Information and Geospatial Agency, the Geoscience Institute, the Water Resources Management Agency, as well as other agencies that play a role in Civil Protection. This cooperation comes shortly after Albania's membership in the European Civil Protection Mechanism.

In his speech, at the start of this workshop, the General Director of the National Agency of Civil Protection, Haki Çako, welcoming the experts of the Civil Protection Mechanism, pointed out the fact that for three years intensive work in the genesis of the Protection System Civil, the Albanian Government has undergone a reform in the disaster management system, shifting attention from a passive management of situations, to a proactive management, oriented to prevention and preparedness, as well as the sustainability of the Civil Defense System as a comprehensive and functional mechanism.
The General Director of the NACP mentioned the main steps, starting from the approval of the law on Civil Protection, the creation of the National Agency of Civil Protection, the drafting of 16 by-laws in accordance with Law 45, the three strategic documents as well as the National Emergency Plan that is expected to be approved within this year.

The General Director of the NACP also mentioned the first mission of Albania under the coordination of the European Civil Protection Mechanism, in support of the terrible situation created by the earthquake in Turkey.
