Defence Minister Niko Peleshi received in a meeting the U.S. National Guard Office, General Daniel R. Hokanson.
During the meeting, they discussed the current security environment and challenges on the eastern border of the Alliance, the situation in the region and in Ukraine, cybersecurity, our country's commitments in NATO, as well as with a special focus on cooperation in the field of Defence with USA.

Both sides expressed concern about the conflict in Ukraine, while the importance of continued support from allies was emphasized. The current situation in the north of Kosovo was particularly discussed, also the possible impact on the stability of the Western Balkans region.


Minister Peleshi emphasized the importance of the presence of NATO troops in the east, Latvia and Bulgaria, and at the same time in KFOR, Kosovo.
During the conversation, the Defence Minister emphasized the role and commitments of our country in guaranteeing peace and security in the region and beyond. He focused on the challenges for the development of the capacities of the Albanian Armed Forces in light of the current security situation.



Minister Peleshi praised the role of the US National Guard Office. At the same time, he expressed his gratitude for the continuous and unconditional support that the US has given to our country, highlighting in particular the excellent cooperation in the field of Defense with the New Jersey National Guard and the support given by them for the development of AAF capacities.
General Hokanson expressed his gratitude for Albania's role in NATO, praising Albania as a very reliable partner and ally. He stated that the US support will be continuous for the improvement of the capacities in order to face the challenges of the time.
