Peleshi meets with his Ukrainian counterpart at the NATO Ministerial in Brussels

Defence Minister Niko Peleshi met in Brussels with the Defence Minister of Ukraine Mr. Rustem Umierov. During this meeting, Mr. Peleshi and Mr. Umierov talked about the current situation in Ukraine and the importance of support from the Alliance, as an essential element in resisting the war with Russia.
Minister Umierov expressed his gratitude to our country and thanked for the comprehensive support that Albania has offered to Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
The war in Ukraine was the main focus of the Defense Ministers Meeting, gathered at the NATO headquarters in Brussels.

The continuous support of the Alliance countries' to Ukraine, in implementation of the decisions of the Vilnius Summit, was first discussed in a special meeting of the Defense Contact Group for Ukraine, which was held at the beginning of the formal NATO Defense Ministers' Meeting where more than 50 different allied and partner countries of NATO participated. During this meeting there was emphasized the immediate need for supporting Ukraine with military capacities such as: weapon systems, artillery and ammunition of different calibers in order to protect its critical infrastructure from Russian aggression.



In the framework of the ministerial work, special attention was paid to the NATO-Ukraine Council Meeting, held for the first time at the level of defense ministers, with the aim of bringing it closer to the Alliance, marking a new chapter in NATO relations - Ukraine. In his intervention, Minister Peleshi reconfirmed that Albania will continue its political, military and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine: "We stand in full solidarity with the government and people of Ukraine and support their aspirations to join NATO.", - Minister Peleshi said.

During the meeting, the allied countries maintained a unified position for the continuation of contributions, as well as the preservation of solidarity and cohesion in support of the Ukrainian people and their struggle. Also, stable support in Ukraine's journey towards Euro-Atlantic integration.
