Defense Minister Niko Peleshi welcomed a group of gifted young individuals from the "Chiron11" team, who earned recognition and nomination for an award in the international competition of the NASA International Space Apps Challenge. The jury, comprised of experts, selected them from a pool of 58,000 participants worldwide. These talented youths proudly represented Albania in this prestigious global competition.
During the conversation with the youngsters, Minister Peleshi emphasized the establishment of the Innovation Center in the Ministry of Defense. "We want to make the center accessible to everyone, so that every high school graduates, every student or operator can easily work and interact".
Mr. Peleshi said that he is very optimistic about the new generation, also expressing the support of the Ministry of Defense in the field of innovation. "Most of the innovations started from defense, from the collapse of the Internet, there are many problems and challenges. We import many technology systems in our field. Why not make them here? We have skilled people. We can make them with our talented youngsters and then develop new sectors.", - said Minister Peleshi, among other things.
The NASA International Space Apps Challenge, a technology marathon launched by NASA, was first announced in 2011 with the full backing of the U.S. government, and its inaugural occurrence took place in 2012. Albania has actively participated in this global event for the past decade.
The remarkable "Chiron11" group, representing Albania, tackled the challenge with their innovative solution: "Visualization of a space mission using virtual reality." Their ambitious dream involves sending a probe to Proxima Centauri B, a distant planet believed to be a potential habitat for future human settlement. This visionary project showcases the creativity and aspirations of these young individuals participating in the NASA International Space Apps Challenge.
