The theme of the conference organized by the Armed Forces Academy and the Military Scientific Research Institute was "Cybersecurity: A Challenge for Defense and Security," with the participation of Defence Minister Niko Peleshi.
Minister Peleshi addressed the conference, highlighting the cyber attacks that impacted Albania last year and discussing the valuable lessons learned by the state and institutions from these incidents.
"Time has shown that it does not matter if you are a big or small country, but the capacities in this domain must be developed. We have experienced the threat in this domain since last year. We are one of the first countries for online services, even compared to developed countries in Europe. 95% of public services are online. But this brings with it hazards and security threat. We are still in the first steps, although after last year's attacks we have restructured the national cyber security capacities, we have also made investments in technological infrastructure and civil sectors. However, no matter how much you invest in infrastructure, if the entire ecosystem is not completed, we cannot succeed. In addition to investments in infrastructure, we also need human capacities."- said Defence Minister during his speech.
Minister Peleshi mentioned that the Academy of the Armed Forces has been offering a master's degree in Cybersecurity for the past three years. Additionally, he discussed the ongoing salary review for senior information technology specialists to enhance competitiveness in the market.
During his speech, Mr. Peleshi also spoke about innovation. According to him, development is also being considered in the field of artificial intelligence. "Even in the field of artificial intelligence, we have no reason to think that our turn has not come. I encourage the staff who will work in the Innovation Center to identify our research topics, to set up research groups around these topics. We are working with the Armed Forces Academy to open a new master's degree in Artificial Intelligence." - emphasized Minister Peleshi.
The scientific conference was attended by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Arben Kingji, as well as commanders and directors of the Armed Forces. Representatives from the Ministry of Interior, the Security Academy, the University of Tirana, and Luarasi University were also present at the event.
