Defence Minister Niko Peleshi in Zagreb, is received by the Croatian heads of state: Proud of the joint journey in NATO

 

Defence Minister Niko Peleshi embarked on an official visit to Zagreb, responding to an invitation from Croatia's Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Ivan Anušić. The primary objective of the visit was to bolster bilateral relations between the two countries, with a particular focus on Security and Defense matters. Discussions also encompassed addressing ongoing issues in the Western Balkans region and fostering cooperation within NATO and other regional and international frameworks.

Peleshi articulated: "Albania and Croatia share a common path as NATO members, and this year, as we commemorate our 15th anniversary within the Alliance, we take pride in our commitment to peace and collective security."

Furthermore, Minister Peleshi expressed gratitude to Croatia for its significant role in the Balkans, acknowledging the unwavering support it extends to regional countries in their Euro-Atlantic integration endeavors. He emphasized Croatia's contribution to fostering a secure and conflict-free region.
Minister Peleshi also lauded Croatia's consistent positive stance towards Kosovo, highlighting its support for Kosovo's European aspirations and its active participation in various regional initiatives and international organizations where Kosovo can play a significant role.
During the visit, Minister Peleshi acquainted his Croatian counterpart with Albania's commitments for 2024, which promises to be a busy year for the Ministry of Defense. Albania is set to host several crucial regional events and will spearhead initiatives such as the USA - Adriatic Charter (A - 5).
The two Defense Ministers inked a new Memorandum of Cooperation in the realm of Security and Defense during the visit. This updated memorandum reflects emerging challenges and identifies new areas of cooperation, including innovation, cybernetics, the defense industry, training, and education, all of which are of mutual interest to both Armed Forces.
Additionally, Minister Peleshi held special meetings with Croatia's President, Mr. Zoran Milanović, and Prime Minister, Mr. Andrej Plenkovic. He briefed them on the latest political developments in Albania, as well as recent reforms in the Security and Defense sectors.

During these discussions, Minister Peleshi reiterated his appreciation for Croatia's steadfast support for Albania's integration efforts, as well as its pivotal role in ensuring security and peace in the Western Balkans region.
