Since August 2023, Albania has been at the helm of the Southeast European Brigade (SEEBRIG), a key regional endeavor under the Southeast European Defense Ministers (SEDM).
Speaking from Kumanova in North Macedonia, Brigadier General Bilbil Bitri, the commander of SEEBRIG, elucidates that SEEBRIG, within its military framework, aims to elevate military cooperation and foster amicable relations among the participating nations.
This collaborative initiative presently encompasses six countries: Albania, Bulgaria, Greece, North Macedonia, Romania, and Turkey. It's noteworthy that this marks the second occasion where a commander from the Albanian Armed Forces assumes leadership of SEEBRIG.

Brigadier General Bilbil Bitri further expounds that beyond fulfilling obligations, this role presents an opportunity to showcase Albania's longstanding commitment to regional cooperation, stability, and peace since the post-Berlin Wall era. Albania's active engagement in initiatives like SEEBRIG not only bolsters cooperation but also lays the groundwork for peaceful regional development.
In Brigadier General Bilbil Bitri's perspective, it's a remarkable coincidence for Albania that their leadership coincides with the 15th Anniversary of NATO Membership. This dual role signifies Albania's direct contributions to NATO as well as its involvement in regional initiatives aimed at fostering peace and security, both within the region and beyond.
Albania is set to lead the Southeast European Defense Ministers' Initiative for a three-year tenure.
