Initiative USA - Adriatic Charter, Albania leads the meeting of representatives of eight countries

 

Under Albania's presidency, a significant meeting convened in Tirana, as part of the US Initiative - Adriatic Charter, bringing together representatives from eight nations.

Chaired jointly by Mr. Gjergji Methoxha, the General Director of Defense Policies, and Mr. Petrika Jorgji, the Director of NATO in the Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs, the joint meeting of the political directors of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense took place.

Participants included representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Defense of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, North Macedonia, alongside the USA, Kosovo, Slovenia, and Serbia.

During the gathering, Albania presented its priorities for the US presidency of the Adriatic Charter in 2024. Central among these priorities is the "Open Door Policy" aiming to welcome countries aspiring to join the Adriatic Charter provided they meet all necessary criteria for membership.

Moreover, discussions revolved around the increased involvement of Charter countries in international missions and operations. Albania emphasized its commitment to participating in joint missions within NATO, the EU, and the United Nations, as well as engaging in collaborative exercises and training activities.

Participants delved into the political and security landscape of the Western Balkans and beyond, identifying shared challenges and addressing specific areas for future cooperation, the importance of the Western Balkans' integration into the European Union, NATO, and other international organizations was underscored throughout the discussions.

At the end of the meeting, the Ministry of Defense presented the calendar of activities that will take place throughout the year in our country.
