Minister Vengu meets with U.S. Chargé d' Affaires in Tirana, Nancy VanHorn: Committed to strengthening cooperation

 

Defense Minister Pirro Vengu welcomed U.S. Chargé d'Affaires in Tirana, Nancy VanHorn, in a courtesy meeting, where he extended a warm welcome to her upon her arrival in Albania.

Highlighting the strong strategic ties between Albania and the United States and the vital role the U.S. plays in Albania’s ongoing transformation, Minister Vengu reaffirmed his commitment to deepening cooperation in the areas of Security and Defense.

During their discussion, the Minister outlined key priorities for the Ministry of Defense, including the transformation and modernization of the Albanian Armed Forces, strategically significant projects like the military port in Porto Romano, the revitalization of the domestic defense industry, as well as Albania’s political, institutional, and military commitments within NATO.

Both Minister Vengu and Chargé d'Affaires VanHorn praised the strong existing cooperation in terms of modernization and capabilities, and discussed ways to elevate this partnership through major new projects.

Ms. VanHorn expressed her gratitude for the warm welcome and acknowledged Albania’s crucial role as a loyal U.S. ally on the international stage, assuring the Minister of continued support from the entire U.S. Embassy team, including both military and civilian defense personnel.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Vengu and Chargé d'Affaires VanHorn signed a Memorandum of Cooperation for the appointment of a Strategic Defense Planning Advisor to the Ministry of Defense, Mr. Randy Hinton.

Mr. Hinton will join four other American advisors who are already working closely with Albanian civilian and military staff on a daily basis in the areas of logistical resources, personnel recruitment, and cybersecurity.
