Fire Situation in the Country as of August 15, 2024, 18:30
According to the National Operational Center for Civil Emergencies, 20 fire outbreaks have been identified across the country by this afternoon. Thanks to the relentless efforts of the operational forces on the ground, 6 of these fires have been fully contained and extinguished, while 14 remain active.
In the Prespa National Park on Mali i Thatë, efforts to extinguish the fire are ongoing, with the challenging terrain and highly flammable vegetation complicating the situation. Today’s operation involved the Romanian C-27J Spartan aircraft, as well as forces from the municipalities of Pogradec, Pustec, and the regional administration of Protected Areas. Ground forces were also reinforced by 103 Armed Forces personnel and 10 vehicles.
In the villages of Rajë and Geghysen in Tropoja municipality, the fire has been contained, but municipal forces continue to monitor the area. There is no immediate risk of the fire spreading.
In Bjeshka e Bollotekut, near the Gashi River, the fire remains active in beech and black pine forests. Due to the difficult terrain, efforts to isolate the fire continue, but it has grown in size.
In Tërnovë village, Bulqizë municipality, the intensity of the fire has decreased, but monitoring continues. The fire is under control and poses no risk of spreading.
In Luzni village, Dibër municipality, the fire has been contained and is being kept under control by forces from the regional administration of Protected Areas.
In Ujanik village, Skrapar municipality, the fire remains active due to rocky terrain and steep slopes, making ground intervention extremely difficult. The fire is spreading toward the "Holy Place," where a fire engine has been stationed.
Above Sotirë village in Upper Dropull, the fire remains active but with low intensity. Fifteen troops and one vehicle from the Armed Forces have been deployed to assist.
A fire approaching Sopik village in the Pogon administrative unit, with flames that have crossed over from Greece, is being closely monitored.
In Sinanaj village, the forest fire poses no risk of spreading. The same is true for the fire in Reshepaj village, Selenicë municipality.
In the "Syri i Kaltër" area in Theth village, Shkodër municipality, operational forces are working to prevent the fire from spreading.
In the "Bjeshkët e Gjurajve" area in Shkodër municipality, the fire is burning in a forested area on steep and difficult terrain. Local municipal teams are monitoring the fire, which does not currently threaten any homes.
The fire in the "Guri i Nënshtegut" area in Theth village is being monitored by operational and volunteer forces.
Under the coordination of the National Civil Protection Agency, the Armed Forces have reinforced the capacities of local government teams in their fight to contain fires in challenging terrains.
