Joint exercise between the Albanian Armed Forces and British Troops, Lord Stuart Peach: Focus on regional cooperation

The UK’s Special Envoy to the Western Balkans, Lord Stuart Peach, attended the Distinguished Visitors’ Day during the joint military exercise "Austere Wolf - 24," part of the "Corridor VIII Response," involving Albanian and British troops.

In his speech at the ceremony, Lord Stuart Peach emphasized that, as NATO partners, the focus is not only on developments in Ukraine but also on regional cooperation and the evolution of modern warfare: “As NATO partners, our focus is not only on the developments in Ukraine and regional cooperation but also on how modern warfare has evolved. With the support of the Albanian Ministry of Defense, British Royal Engineers have sent specialist teams over the past few months to study the underground complex in Kukës, testing their geodetic skills. This deployment highlighted the potential of the system, not only in the use of technology and equipment but also in the opportunity for developing the tourism industry in northern Albania.”

He further noted the importance of underground tunnels in modern warfare, referencing how some of the British experts were recently called to report on Hamas' tunnel network in Gaza, which was being discussed in the news that week. "This underscores the fact that our cooperation is diverse, ambitious, and innovative, extending beyond what we learn in traditional career courses and conventional exercises."
