The Commission on Combating Disinformation, Vengu: A clear strategy is needed to confront this threat

During the hearing of the Special Commission on combating disinformation and foreign interference in democratic processes, chaired by Erion Braçe, the Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, highlighted the need for a well-organized strategy to address this growing phenomenon.

Minister Vengu stressed that Albania is not immune to the threats posed by disinformation, which, among other things, manifests in the form of operational disinformation and propaganda funded by countries with malign influence outside NATO and the EU.

Regarding the identification of disinformation sources and coordination with international partners, Vengu stated that the country has the necessary capabilities to fulfill these tasks. He emphasized the need for collaboration between state institutions and the private sector, including telecommunications companies and social media platforms, as well as the legal and technical steps that the Commission can contribute to in this effort.
