Parliament ratifies agreement with Slovenia on emergencies, Minister Vengu: A key step in strengthening capacities to address global challenges

 

The Parliament ratified with a majority vote the Agreement between the Government of the Republic of Slovenia and the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania on Cooperation in Disaster Protection.

During the parliamentary session, the Minister of Defense, Mr. Pirro Vengu, described the agreement as a significant step toward strengthening Albania's national capacities and improving international cooperation in addressing global challenges. According to Minister Vengu, this mutual cooperation between the two countries primarily focuses on areas such as the exchange of scientific and technical knowledge, the transfer of expertise and experience in disaster protection, education and training of personnel involved in protection and rescue activities, development and production of protective and rescue equipment, mutual notification of disaster risks and their consequences, assistance in case of natural and other disasters in protection and rescue, as well as mitigating and eliminating their effects.

As per the agreement, this mutual assistance may include rescue teams, individual experts, protective and rescue equipment, and humanitarian aid.

The agreement also specifies that airplanes and ships may be used for the emergency transport of rescue teams or individual experts providing assistance, protection, rescue equipment, and other types of aid in line with this agreement. However, the use of military aircraft and ships for the purposes of this agreement is permitted only with the consent of the host state.
