While patrolling the Aegean Sea, the Albanian naval ship Butrinti carried out a search and rescue (SAR) operation, assisting a raft carrying 36 migrants from the Middle East, including 12 children. The vessel had departed from Çeşme, bound for the island of Chios.
At the conclusion of the operation, the migrants were handed over to the Turkish Coast Guard, which expressed gratitude to the Albanian side for Butrinti’s assistance.
The Albanian Naval Force continues its contribution to this critical mission as part of NATO’s Standing Maritime Group 2 in Operation Sea Guardian, ensuring safety at sea and helping manage irregular migration in the Aegean region.
