Minister Vengu welcomes the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy: Cooperation with the EU to revitalise the Defence Industry

Defence Minister Mr. Pirro Vengu held a special meeting with the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Ms. Kaja Kallas. Defence cooperation was at the heart of the discussion between Ms. Kallas and Minister Vengu.

Mr. Vengu reaffirmed Albania’s unwavering commitment to stand alongside its European partners in defending peace and security across the continent.

The Defence Minister underlined that Albania fully recognises the importance of military mobility and is therefore investing in infrastructure and capabilities along Corridor VIII, starting with the Durrës/Porto Romano complex.

During his conversation with the EU High Representative, Minister Vengu stressed that Albania follows a constructive regional policy based on the principles of cooperation, European and Euro-Atlantic integration processes, and good neighbourly relations.

He also reiterated Albania’s commitment to concluding negotiations on Cluster Six by the end of 2025.

Minister Vengu thanked the Vice-President of the European Commission for the support provided to the Albanian Armed Forces — support that, he noted, will continue in the future.

Additionally, Minister Vengu briefed Ms. Kallas on steps taken toward revitalising Albania’s Defence Industry, with the goal of producing defence articles “Made in Albania.” He expressed Albania’s interest in working closely with the European Union in this field, aiming for full access to the EU’s financial instruments for security and defence.
