Defence Minister Vengu welcomes Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone

Albanian Defence Minister Pirro Vengu welcomed Admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, Chairman of the NATO Military Committee, during his official visit to Albania. The meeting underscored the close and ongoing cooperation between Albania and NATO in the face of today’s shared security challenges.

Held in a constructive and cordial atmosphere, the meeting was an opportunity to reaffirm Albania’s strategic commitment to the Alliance and discuss regional and broader Euro-Atlantic security developments.

Defence Minister Vengu praised Admiral Dragone for his leadership and long-standing contribution to Euro-Atlantic defence, including his previous roles within the Italian Armed Forces. He highlighted the enduring partnership between Albania and NATO and stressed the importance of maintaining a strong presence in the Western Balkans.

“Albania views the Western Balkans as a vital part of Euro-Atlantic security,” Minister Vengu stated. “We remain fully committed to NATO’s KFOR mission in Kosovo, which continues to play a stabilising role in the region.”

The Defence Minister also outlined Albania’s current priorities in the defence sector increasing investment in military modernisation, revitalising the defence industry, and enhancing Albania’s role as a regional security provider.

Chairman Dragone commended Albania’s contributions to NATO, its participation in international missions, and the steady progress made in building national defence capabilities. He described Albania as a trusted and active member of the Alliance, firmly committed to NATO’s values and shared objectives.

As part of his visit, Chairman Dragone also met with the Chief of the General Staff of the Albanian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Arben Kingji. The two military leaders exchanged views on regional security dynamics and deepening operational and strategic cooperation.
