Defence Minister Pirro Vengu participates in NATO Defence Ministerial in Brussels

Defence Minister Pirro Vengu, participated today in the NATO Defence Ministers’ Meeting, held at the Alliance’s headquarters in Brussels. This ministerial took place in the lead-up to the NATO Summit in The Hague and aimed to finalize preparations for the strategic decisions to be addressed at the highest level of the Alliance.
During the proceedings, Minister Vengu reaffirmed Albania’s support for the Alliance’s joint efforts to strengthen defensive capabilities, as well as the country’s commitment to contributing to the achievement of shared strategic objectives. He also emphasized the importance of increasing defence investments in line with the current security challenges facing NATO.
In his remarks, NATO Secretary General Mr. Mark Rutte highlighted that this meeting represents an important step forward for the Alliance, underlining the priority of strengthening deterrence and defence capabilities through new and ambitious objectives.
The ministerial also delivered a clear message on the need to boost defence industry production in order to meet capability targets and ensure a strong NATO, ready to face any challenge in the future.
The Defence Ministers’ Meeting was preceded by a session of the Ukraine Defence Contact Group (UDCG), an international forum led by the United Kingdom and Germany, which focuses on delivering concrete support to Ukraine in response to Russian aggression.
