The former military site in Bushat is being transformed into a Regional Civil Emergencies Center. Defence Minister Pirro Vengu, accompanied by the Director of the National Civil Protection Agency Haki Çako, Shkodër Prefect Majlinda Angoni, Brigadier General Aleksandër Pando and Commander of the Support Command, inspected the ongoing works for its transformation.
While reviewing the project, Minister Vengu explained that this initiative is part of a broader effort to repurpose and revitalize outdated military assets, giving them a new function to serve both civil and military needs. In collaboration with the Support Command, the Shkodër Prefecture, and the National Civil Protection Agency, the former and long-abandoned site will be turned into a modern structure capable of responding effectively to natural disasters and emergency situations.
“The Regional Civil Emergencies Center in Bushat aims to strengthen the emergency response capacities of the municipalities of Shkodër and Lezhë, particularly in the area between Shëngjin and Velipojë, which face heightened risks due to year-round tourism activity.” said Minister Vengu during the visit. “The center will serve as a coordination hub in responding to fires, floods, and other natural disasters.”
He also noted that rehabilitation works are already underway, thanks to the commitment of the Support Command, which has facilitated renewed access to the site, enabling full implementation of the project.
The creation of this regional center reinforces the Ministry of Defense’s and Civil Protection structures commitment to ensuring faster, more coordinated emergency response, while also contributing to the development of modern infrastructure that serves the safety of the community.
