AKMC marks the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction with an awareness activity on prevention, preparedness, and coordinated response to natural hazards and emergencies

On the occasion of the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction and within the framework of the “Civil Protection on Tour 2025” campaign, the National Civil Protection Agency (NCPA), in cooperation with UNDP Albania and the Municipality of Elbasan, organized an awareness activity highlighting the importance of prevention, preparedness, and coordinated response to natural hazards and emergencies.

The event was attended by the General Director of NCPA, Mr. Haki Çako, the Mayor of Elbasan, Mr. Gledian Llatja, as well as representatives from the Prefecture of Elbasan and other local institutions.

During the activity, citizens were informed and sensitized about protective measures, the actions to be taken in emergency situations, and the importance of community cooperation in building safer and more resilient communities. Participants also had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with emergency equipment, awareness materials, practical guides, and interactive demonstrations on how to respond effectively in hazardous situations.

As part of the event, a stop was made at “Kostandin Kristoforidhi” High School, where a fire emergency simulation was organized. Under the guidance of teachers and teams from the fire service, medical emergency service, and volunteers of the Albanian Red Cross, students demonstrated evacuation and response procedures, showcasing the significance of knowing self-protection and first-aid protocols in emergency scenarios.
