According to Minister Vengu, equipping the Albanian Armed Forces with the Javelin system represents a significant step forward in strengthening the country’s defensive capabilities and advancing the military modernization agenda.
“The arrival of the Javelin systems, made possible through cooperation with our strategic ally, the United States, strengthens the defensive capabilities of the Albanian Armed Forces, enhances deterrence, interoperability with NATO, and national security.” - the Defence Minister said.
The Javelin system is considered a key component of ground defence, substantially increasing the Land Force’s ability to counter advanced threats and operate in full alignment with Alliance standards.
Javelin is a latest-generation anti-tank missile system produced in the United States. It is highly effective against armored vehicles and is widely used by NATO militaries as well as in real combat operations.
Albania ordered the Javelin system within the framework of military cooperation programs with the United States, through the Foreign Military Sales (FMS) mechanism. This investment forms part of the long-term strategy to modernize the Armed Forces, strengthen deterrence, and achieve full alignment with NATO capabilities and doctrine.
