Albania and the Sovereign Order of Malta sign memorandum to strengthen civil emergency response

The Defence Minister of the Republic of Albania and the Sovereign Order of Malta have signed a memorandum of cooperation aimed at enhancing preparedness and strengthening response mechanisms for civil emergencies, as well as improving medical support in times of crisis.

The agreement provides for structured cooperation in the field of Civil Emergencies, including joint interventions in cases of natural disasters, technical assistance, the involvement of experts, as well as training and capacity-building activities. Another key pillar of the memorandum is the exchange of information on best practices and coordination during the post-emergency phase.

Following the signing ceremony, Defence Minister Pirro Vengu emphasized the importance of the partnership, noting that he received in a meeting Josef D. Blotz, Grand Hospitaller of the Sovereign Order of Malta.

“The memorandum of cooperation signed today represents an important opportunity to strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms for civil emergencies, as well as medical support.” Minister Vengu stated.

According to Minister Vengu, the memorandum outlines joint emergency interventions, training and capacity-building initiatives, the exchange of expertise and best practices, and both civilian and military medical support.

“This partnership aims to enhance our shared capacities and ensure a more effective response, in service of a safer future.” - the minister underlined.

In the health sector, the memorandum also includes the exchange of medical and technical personnel, joint training for civilian and military structures, preparedness and response to large-scale health emergencies, as well as scientific and technological cooperation.
