Defence Minister Nufi meets Commander of NATO Allied Joint Force Command Naples: Albania remains a fully committed partner to shared values

Defence Minister Ermal Nufi hosted Admiral George M. Wikoff, Commander of NATO’s Allied Joint Force Command Naples (JFC Naples), who is on an official visit to Albania.

During the meeting, Defence Minister Nufi stressed that the visit reflects the strong and enduring partnership between the Armed Forces of Albania and NATO Allies, underlining that Albania remains fully committed to collective defence and shared democratic values.

He expressed confidence in the key role JFC Naples plays in strengthening Euro-Atlantic security, ensuring regional stability and supporting international peace. He also assured Admiral Wikoff that Albania’s top priority remains the continued modernisation of the Armed Forces and the full fulfilment of all obligations stemming from NATO membership.

The discussions also covered recent geopolitical developments in Southeastern Europe. Both sides noted that the region remains exposed and vulnerable to disinformation, hybrid threats, and cyberattacks, requiring sustained attention, close coordination, and constant vigilance among Allies.

Particular attention was given to the security situation in Kosovo and the important role of the KFOR mission. In this context, Defence Minister Nufi expressed strong appreciation for NATO’s presence, especially in northern Kosovo, describing it as essential for maintaining peace and stability, and as a credible deterrent that ensures security for all citizens of the Republic of Kosovo and the wider region.

Defence Minister Nufi also assured the Commander of JFC Naples that Albania will continue to contribute to the KFOR and EUFOR Althea missions, further expanding its engagement with the introduction of air assets and enhanced capabilities for protection against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats.

The Allied Joint Force Command Naples is one of NATO’s three Joint Force Commands within the Alliance’s command structure. Its mission is to prepare, plan, and conduct military operations to preserve peace, security, and the territorial integrity of NATO member states across the area of responsibility of the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) and beyond.

In addition, JFC Naples plays a key role in crisis management and threat prevention by ensuring that headquarters and assigned forces remain at the required level of readiness to conduct and support operations.
