Minister Nufi hosts Greek counterpart Dendias: “We continue close dialogue in the field of defence and security”

Nufi: “Albania, a key factor in promoting regional stability and security”

Today, Defence Minister of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Ermal Nufi, hosted his counterpart, the Minister of National Defence of Greece, Mr. Nikos Dendias. The official visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation between Albania and Greece and continuing close dialogue in the field of defence and security.

Expressing appreciation for Greece’s support for Albania’s European path, Minister Ermal Nufi highlighted the promotion of regional stability and security, particularly in the Western Balkans, which remains a shared strategic priority for both countries.

In this context, Mr. Nufi stated:

“Albania’s main objective in the region remains the advancement of political stability, security, and sustainable economic development. For this reason, we are present with personnel in EUFOR ALTHEA in Bosnia and Herzegovina and in KFOR in Kosovo.

Furthermore, the Albanian and Greek naval forces maintain excellent coordination and interoperability through missions in the Aegean and Mediterranean Seas, including NATO’s Operation ‘Sea Guardian’.

Meanwhile, Albania is currently undertaking efforts to strengthen and modernise its naval fleet, which will further enhance maritime security and the presence of Allies in the Adriatic-Ionian region.”

Mr. Nufi also highlighted the strong level of military cooperation already in place through joint exercises, training initiatives, military education, and professional exchanges. He placed particular emphasis on the importance of reactivating the technical protocol on military medical cooperation between the two countries.

“We believe this framework should be reactivated, particularly in the areas of specialised healthcare, medical training, and professional exchanges, in the spirit of mutual benefit and strategic partnership." - Mr. Nufi said during his discussion with his counterpart, Mr. Dendias.

During the meeting, both sides also jointly acknowledged the growing importance of developing defence capabilities and strengthening military-industrial cooperation as key priorities for all Allies, especially in light of NATO and European Union dynamics and decisions.
