The decisions were announced following the government meeting by Defence Minister Ermal Nufi. One of the approved measures establishes clearer alignment between military ranks and organisational positions within the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania, in line with the new approved structure. According to Minister Nufi, the decision provides much-needed legal clarity.
“There have been some inconsistencies since the 2015 Council of Ministers decision and subsequent structural changes, which are now being addressed through today’s decision.” - he stated.
Another decision concerns the 2026 fund for disaster prevention and management. A total of 44 projects will be financed, including 26 infrastructure projects and 18 procurement projects for equipment and vehicles. The projects will be implemented by local government units, with total funding of around 650 million ALL.
Minister Nufi said the investments aim to reduce disaster risk, strengthen the civil protection system, and enhance the safety of citizens.
He also announced the extension of Albania’s Armed Forces deployment in NATO’s mission in Latvia until 31 December 2029. Albania will continue contributing a platoon as part of NATO’s collective defence efforts on the Alliance’s eastern flank.
