Brussels: Defence Minister Nufi holds talks with NATO Deputy Secretary General Radmila Šekerinska

Today, the Defence Minister, Mr. Ermal Nufi, also held a meeting with NATO Deputy Secretary General Ms. Radmila Šekerinska.

The discussions focused on security in the Western Balkans, Albania’s engagement within the Alliance, and preparations for upcoming NATO summits.
During the meeting, Minister Nufi reaffirmed Albania’s determination to remain a constructive factor in Southeastern Europe, supporting peace, stability, and regional cooperation.
The conversation also underlined Albania’s unwavering commitment to NATO and Euro-Atlantic values, as well as the implementation of the decisions of the Hague Summit regarding increased defence investment. Minister Nufi noted that the growth of the defence budget will provide Albania with greater flexibility to meet the Alliance’s obligations and requirements.
Another issue addressed was the modernisation of military capabilities and the revitalisation of the domestic defence industry, which, according to the Minister, has seen encouraging developments and growing interest from international defence industry partners.
The two interlocutors also discussed preparations for the NATO Summit in Ankara on 7–8 July, while Minister Nufi emphasised the importance of preparations for the historic NATO Summit to be hosted in Tirana in 2027.
Minister Nufi also highlighted that Albania remains committed to strengthening cyber defence capabilities in close cooperation with NATO and Allies, as part of enhancing national resilience and security.
