Rome, Minister Nufi welcomed by Italian counterpart Guido Crosetto

Albania Defence Minister Ermal Nufi, paid an official visit to Italy, where he was welcomed by his counterpart, the Italian Defence Minister Guido Crosetto.

During the cordial meeting, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to further strengthening strategic relations and bilateral cooperation in the fields of defence and security.

Minister Nufi emphasized the importance of Albania’s close and special partnership with Italy, particularly in addressing common security challenges in the Adriatic-Ionian region, the Western Balkans, and Southeastern Europe, areas where Albania continues to make an active contribution to the Alliance’s collective defence.

The two ministers underscored that Albania and Italy are intensifying their strategic cooperation in the field of defence. This development follows the agreement signed between the Albanian state-owned company KAYO and the renowned Italian company Fincantieri for the production of military vessels. The partnership is expected to make a significant contribution to the modernization of the naval capabilities of the Albanian Armed Forces and to the development of Albania’s defence industry.

The discussions also focused on strengthening Albania’s role within the Alliance, particularly in the context of the NATO Summit that will be held in Tirana next year. Preparations are already underway, including the establishment of the Summit Task Force and the National Summit Organization Team.
