Firefighting operations continue in Shëngjin as blaze nears containment

Under the coordination of the National Civil Protection Agency and the Ministry of Defence, firefighting operations continue in Shëngjin in support of the Municipality of Lezhë.

Throughout the night, emergency response teams worked continuously to contain the wildfire. The operation involved seven fire engines from the Fire and Rescue Services of Lezhë, Vau i Dejës, Shkodër, Mirditë, and the Port of Shëngjin. Personnel and water tankers from the Albanian Armed Forces, together with staff from the Forest Service, the Public Services Directorate of the Municipality of Lezhë, and the Municipality’s Civil Emergency Service, also remained engaged in the operation.

A helicopter from the Albanian Armed Forces has continued to support the response through aerial firefighting operations. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of all participating agencies, the intensity of the fire has been significantly reduced, and operations remain focused on containing and fully extinguishing the remaining active hotspots.

The suspected perpetrator responsible for starting the fire has been identified and has been brought before the competent authorities to face legal proceedings.

The Ministry of Defence and the National Civil Protection Agency call on all citizens to exercise the utmost responsibility, strictly observe wildfire prevention measures, and immediately report any fire outbreaks or suspicious activity to the relevant authorities.
