Speaking from Himara, where he closely monitored the wildfire situation throughout the operation, Defence Minister Ermal Nufi stated that the situation is now completely calm and under control.
Minister Nufi also provided an overview of the forces deployed in the firefighting operation after the flames spread across a wide area last night.
“The situation in Himara is now completely calm and fully under control. More than 170 members of the Armed Forces, over 300 firefighters and more than 21 fire engines have been deployed across the Himara area. Aerial firefighting operations began at 6:30 this morning.” the Defence Minister explained.
Minister Nufi also commended the tireless efforts of the teams that worked throughout the night.
“An extraordinary effort was made to bring the wildfire situation under control. Unfortunately, six homes were engulfed by the flames. There were no fatalities and no businesses were damaged, thanks to the swift response and dedication of all personnel, both firefighters and members of the Armed Forces, who battled the blaze throughout the night until the situation was brought under control this morning,” Minister Nufi emphasised.
The operation in Himara remains ongoing, with coordinated firefighting efforts continuing both on the ground and from the air.
