Minister Kodheli, for the clearance of the Gërdec area

Kodheli:Let’s turn Gërdec into a garden of flowers. We have assured 1.2 million dollars for the hotspots clearance.
Defence Minister, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli, was today in Gërdec to attend at the certification ceremony of a cleared area from hazardous waste and hand over of this area to the local government structures. Minister Kodheli saw the work being done to clear the area and met the military personnel who have worked and continue to work for the full accomplishment of this operation. Minister Kodheli emphasized, although there is still much work to be done for the complete cleaning of this area, we are constantly working to turn it to its identity and remove it from map of dangerous areas to the residents and to the surrounding community.
Minister Kodheli thanked UNDP (United Nations Development Programme), the U.S Embassy, the German Embassy and all the partners who have made possible the continuation of the work for the cleaning of the area. She further added, “Albania has some hotspots, but we are determined to clear them. We managed to assure 1.2 million dollars aid and support to clear them.”
Minister Kodheli stated, we convey the message that this should not happen anymore and never have such grave events taking the lives of dozens of people and for this, we will work hard and ceaselessly. Gërdec and the surrounding area, stressed Minister Kodheli, should turn into a garden of flowers, a fertile land that produces for its people, for their future.
Until now, in the area considered with hazardous waste, 36,042 m2 is cleared and it was handed over to the community. Yet, an area of 31,750 m2 remains to be cleared.
