Special Forces, part of the Albanian Armed Forces, will be engaged in mission to Afghanistan. Minister of Defense Olta Xhaçka, notified the decision during her visit to the Land Force Command in Zall Herr. Having lunch with Special Forces, Minister Xhaçka confirmed that Albania will continue to be represented in peacekeeping missions by sending a military group of the Elite Battalion to Afghanistan.
"Today I want to share with you an important decision. You, militaries of Special Forces, will be engaged in Afghanistan. We are negotiating with the allies to determine the details of your engagement. But I am very enthusiastic about this new development. We have positively responded to President Trump's new strategy for Afghanistan, to continue replacing insecurity with the security that our presence gives. Train, prepare, to represent us in the best way. For the families, the flag, the homeland! ", said among other things the Minister.
Until October 18, 2012, when the AAF completed its engagement as part of the ISAF, Albania engaged on mission in Kabul (Afghanistan) 440 militaries, acting as part of the contingent of the Turkish Armed Forces. The contingents consisted of a platoon of 22 troops from the structures of the Special Forces Battalion, the Rapid Reaction Brigade and the units of the Land Force Command.
