October is known as the month of Breast Cancer Awareness and the Ministry of Defense has joined this initiative for several years now. A moving mammography, which performs free diagnostics, has been made available to all the women serving the Albanian Armed Forces and the Ministry of Defense by the Ministry of Health.
Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka was on the women and girls’ side of the Land Forces where she has called for not neglecting health. "The woman is well-known for her self-sacrificing nature. Doing everything for anyone and for everything else but herself. I am very happy today that we have the opportunity to diagnose an enormous number of women of our Land Forces by the moving mammography. I am very pleased that the Ministry of Health has given us this mammography, they have brought it to us here in the Land Forces to enable us to deliver this extraordinary service to prevent a disease that is extremely dangerous and takes women and mothers’ lives. The importance of life is exceptional, but for a woman this importance is two folded; this is because she also gives birth and, in order to be able to generate, we must protect what we have", - added Xhaçka.
The Defense Minister, in a special appeal to protect health, emphasized once again the need for women to be examined and to use this service for their own benefit.
This mammography has a number of success stories. Mrs. Naime Lika, 55 years old, part of the Special Forces Battalion was diagnosed a year ago with breast cancer by the moving mammography service. Today, a year later, the lady learnt she was totally cured and everything thanks to the early stage detection of the problem.
Another lady, Fatmira Ismailaj, a Training Specialist at the Reconnaissance-Commando Battalion, was very pleased for this opportunity that the Ministry of Defense had given to the AAF women and urged all women not to neglect their health.
“I did the examination and it went very well. I was also examined six years ago. This is a good initiative of the Albanian Government and the Ministry of Defense and I appeal to all Albanian women over ‘40s to do this examination and to diagnose it in the early stage because they will save their lives", said Mrs. Ismailaj
The Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health cooperate for several years now to provide free breast cancer diagnosis by this moving mammography. This device will move across the Armed Forces to assist all civilian or uniformed officers.
This co-operation between the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Health has been taking place for several years now and it has helped some women to detect the progression of breast cancer in the early stages.
