Defence Minister Kodheli met Jonathan Moore

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli met today Mr. Jonathan Moore, Director of Central and South Europe Affairs Office at the U.S. State Department. Mr. Moore was accompanied by U.S. Ambassador in Tirana, Mr. Alexander Arvizu. Defence Minister Kodheli thanked Mr. Jonathan Moore for the visit and expressed to him deep gratitude for the contribution United States has provided to assist Albanians and Albania, especially in the integration process of the country into the Euro-Atlantic structures. Mrs. Kodheli informed Mr. Moore about the reform in the Armed Forces, highlighting her will and of the majority to give back to the Albanian Army its deserved dignity.
Albania, 5 years in NATO

In the main square of the Ministry of Defence took place today a special ceremony on the occasion of the 5th anniversary of Albania’s accession to NATO. In this jubilee attended the Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania, Mr. Edi Rama, Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ditmir Bushati, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Jeronim Bazo, former defence ministers, MPs of the Albanian Parliament, generals, directors and other senior officers of the Ministry of Defence, General Staff and Armed Forces. The ceremony was also attended by ambassadors and defence attachés of NATO countries and partner countries, as well as many other guests.

The General Staff of the Armed Forces expresses its deepest condolences to the family of Arben Dosku, who lost his life today, and Lavdrim and Alfred Dosku, who were wounded in the village of Zgarë, Librazhd. The Armed Forces have done and will continue to do everything possible to avoid incidents of this kind causing the loss of human lives or damage to people, but we note with concern that too little is done by local government.
The Armed Forces through protection, patrolling, surveillance, placement of necessary signs, awareness campaigns and in cooperation with local government make maximum efforts to avoid these incidents. Despite these measures, we inform that it is impossible the physical and continuous control of these remote areas that once served as demolition ranges. The General Staff of the Armed Forces assures the public that there is no demolition process underway in this area, since it was concluded in September 2012, however, cautiousness must be continuous.

The purpose of this conference is to support and build confidence in the use of common funds, to create knowledge, understanding and support for the ongoing work of the NATO HQs, as well as promote the growth of effective cooperation between different views and concerns of states member.
