Minister Kodheli meets the Canadian Foreign Minister, Mr. John Baird

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli held a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Canada, Mr. John Baird. The meeting took place at the Air Force Command in Rinas. Minister Kodheli thanked the Canadian Minister for the contribution his country is making in the joint operation of sending aids to the Iraqi government. Mrs. Kodheli assessed that this contribution is very important at the moment when the whole Alliance is facing various threats to security and peace.

“Eagle-8” peacekeeping contingent returns home

At the Special Forces Battalion, in Zall-Herr, it was held the welcome ceremony of the “Eagle-8” contingent, who served in the peacekeeping mission in Afghanistan. At the ceremony attended the Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli, the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Jeronim Bazo, the U.S Ambassador, Mr. Alexander Arvizu, and many other guests. In her speech, Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli welcomed home the peacekeepers on behalf of the Ministry of Defence and all Albanians. “Your 8th combat mission, where you successfully served for a period of 6 months in the Kandahar region, concluded our engagement with combat forces in the ISAF mission, and for this, we all are grateful to you. The operation area of “Eagle-8” is regarded as the stronghold of terrorist activities in southern Afghanistan, where the Taliban forces have always been present and active.”

Defence Minister Kodheli meeting with the Air Force pilots

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli had this morning a meeting with the Air Force’s pilots, who were attacked during the anti-cannabis operation in the North of the country.

Minister Kodheli thanked them for the outstanding work they have done in this very important operation for the security of the country. “With full confidence, I say that not just the Armed Forces, but all the Albanians are proud of you. You are the best example for the Albanian society. The good and evil have confronted each other for centuries, but we will continue to be on the side of right and good”, - said Minister Kodheli.

Minister Mimi Kodheli: Endless thanks and gratitude to the pilots, Lieutenant Colonel Altin Lama, Captain Ervin Buzi and Corporal Saimir Balla, of the Air Force, who risked their lives during the operation undertaken today in support of the State Police in the fight against narcotics. Our commitment to restoring the rule of law and control of the territory will continue. The Air Force’s pilots deserve today the unquestioned support of all the public for their contribution in service of their country.


Armed Forces commitment in camps during the touristic season

During the touristic season, the Ministry of Defence and the Armed Forces, in cooperation with the National Coast Agency (NCA), were committed as part of the Task Force in setting up camping sites, improving safety conditions at beaches and recreational areas along the whole coastline of the country.

The Armed Forces, since June 20, 2014, with 136 troops and 11 vehicles are mainly engaged in the administration and setting up camps in the beaches defined by NCA; creation of appropriate conditions in camps and beaches for the tourists; surveillance and patrol along the coastline; searching and finding lost children; management of incidents at sea, providing the first aid and transporting the injured to the health centres.
