Defence Minister Niko Peleshi received in a formal reception the Federal Minister of Defense, Klaudia Tanner. This meeting was of a particular importance as the two ministers discussed defense co-operation and Austria's special contribution to the Western Balkans.
Minister Peleshi assured Minister Tanner of Albania's commitment to implement reforms as well as meet the European Union membership criteria. The recent changes and various reforms in the field of Defense, investment and modernization of the Armed Forces, were part of the discussions.
After leading the Land Forces for a period of 14 months in the position of Deputy Commander, Brigadier General Ferdinant Dimo was assigned today in a new position as the Commander of the Support Command.
Seven elite athletes, World and European Olympic Champions were awarded the rank of "Colonel" as part of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania in a special ceremony.
Luiza Gega, Briken Calja, Erkand Qerimaj, Alban Beqiri, judo coach Majlinda Kelmendi and judokas Distria Krasniqi and Nora Gjakova were awarded the military rank at the ceremony which was attended by the Prime Minister Edi Rama, Speaker of the Parliament Lindita Nikolla, Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi.
The Defence Minister Niko Peleshi participated in the "Schuman" Security and Defense Partnership Forum, with the theme "Stronger together in an unstable world", which was held in Brussels on March 20 and 21.
