Minister Kodheli at the Comprehensive Regional Ministerial held in Slovenia

The Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence, Ms. Farkas congratulated Minister Kodheli for her new office as Minister of Defence, while Minister Kodheli assessed the excellent relations between the Republic of Albania and the United States of America, noting that the Ministry of Defence and the Albanian government considers the U.S. government as a key strategic partner in foreign policy and cooperation in the field of defence. Minister Kodheli praised the continuous support the USA has given to the process of reform and transformation of the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF), helping them to achieve NATO standards for defence capabilities and military modernization.

Defence Minister Kodheli also held a meeting with the Minister of Defence of Slovenia, Mr. Roman Jakič. At the meeting, Mr. Roman Jakič congratulated Ms. Kodheli for her new office as Minister of Defence, while Minister Kodheli firstly, congratulated Minister Roman Jakič for the initiative undertaken by the Ministry of Defence of Slovenia to organize, for the first time, a Comprehensive Regional Ministerial gathering all the defence ministers of South-Eastern Europe and beyond in two ministerials on various topics at the same time and place, further highlighting that other countries should continue this initiative of Slovenia. U.S-Adriatic Charter Defence Ministerial
The Adriatic Charter Defence Ministerial (A-5) was opened by Montenegrin Defence Minister, Mr. Milica Pejanovič Đurišič, chair of the meeting of this initiative. Initially, the participants were addressed by Slovenian Defence Minister, Mr. Roman Jakič, who expressed his satisfaction for the full participation of all the ministers of the Adriatic Charter member countries.
The defence ministers confirmed once again the importance of the Euro-Atlantic integration process to strengthen stability and security in South-Eastern Europe. Considering the importance of cooperation among the member countries of this initiative in the field of security and defence, this meeting was a good opportunity to discuss about global challenges to the security, which our countries are facing.
At this meeting, special importance was dedicated to the role of Albania, Croatia and United States, as NATO member countries, and the support they have given to other countries participating in this initiative in the process of integration into NATO or in other regional structures.
The Minister of Defence of Albania, Ms. Mimi Kodheli during her speech said that, Albania, since a long time, is engaged in Afghanistan and will continue to contribute working closely with other countries, to further support the Afghan government in strengthening security and reviving the institutions. Albania will be part of the initiatives taken by the A-5 to help Afghanistan in the areas of military mentoring, military police and medical treatment. Minister Kodheli also discussed about the projects undertaken under this initiative, as a practical mechanism of regional cooperation.

South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM)
On the second day of the Comprehensive Regional Ministerial 2013 held in Brdo, Slovenia, the Minister of Defence, Ms. Mimi Kodheli took part in the meeting of the defence ministers of the South-Eastern Europe countries (SEDM).
Defence Minister, Ms. Mimi Kodheli, in the speech delivered at the ministerial, noted that, the 17-year process of SEDM has been very successful and has influenced in favour of peace, stability, security and democracy in the region. Today, after many years since the establishment, emphasized among other things Ms. Kodheli, there is a diversity of membership in this initiative, many countries are members of the European Union and NATO, and other countries are moving fast to become part of such organizations taking example from the experience of countries already integrated.
