50 years after its creation, Gjadri Air Base returns to operation for Black Hawk Helicopters

On the 50th anniversary of its creation, Gjadri Air Base has resumed operations. For the first time, it welcomed the flight of the new UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter on its runway, marking a significant step in the modernization of the Albanian Air Force.

During the ceremony organized for this occasion, Brigadier General Ferdinant Dimo, the commander of the Air Force, emphasized the historical importance of this base: "This date marks the creation of one of the most important defense installations of that time. Soldiers, pilots, and technicians have diligently worked at this base, performing flight duties and serving away from their families to defend the country. Today, with advanced safety concepts, the revitalization of the base will provide new infrastructure for helicopter aircrew training and basic training for new pilots," Brigadier General Dimo stated.

Fifty years ago, pilots Haki Jupasi and Serafin Shegani made the first landing on the newly built Gjadri Aerodrome runway with supersonic MIG-19 and MIG-21 aircraft, flying from Rinas airport.

Now, half a century later, the base has become operational for flying the newest and most modern helicopters of the Air Force. American training personnel for Black Hawk helicopters also participated in the ceremony, reflecting international cooperation in the development of the country's air capabilities.
