The launch ceremony was attended by Defence Minister Pirro Vengu, Minister of Education and Sports Mirela Kumbaro, MPs from the Vlora region, representatives of the Armed Forces Academy, academic staff, and the first cohort of students enrolled in the new program.
In his remarks, Defence Minister Vengu praised the collaboration between academic and military institutions as a significant step toward creating a new ecosystem of knowledge, innovation, and practical expertise.
“I believe we’ve found a fascinating success triangle here in Vlora, one that connects academia, the defense industry, and security institutions. This vision is already reflected in three key initiatives: the Vlora Airport, the revival of the Aviation School in Vlora, which is currently underway, and the restoration of the Bunavi Naval Base.” - said Minister Vengu.
He went on to emphasize that the Ministry’s long-term goal is to develop domestic capacity for innovation, scientific research, and production in the field of Defence:
“This is the right moment to reflect on the progress of our military curricula, which should also open the door for civilian professionals to join us, since we already have civilians working within the Defence structure.” - he added.
Minister Vengu highlighted that the initiative follows the most successful European and NATO models, such as in Poland, where strong cooperation between education, industry, and military research has led to sustainable and self-reliant development in the defence sector.
He congratulated the first 16 students of this pioneering program, encouraging them as they begin a new academic journey aimed at building the knowledge and skills that will strengthen Albania’s national capabilities in aviation, naval engineering, and military technology.
