Corridor 8, which begins at Durrës - Porto Romano port complex and extends toward the Black Sea, has been officially incorporated into NATO’s critical military infrastructure and recognized as a security corridor supporting the Alliance’s collective defence. The announcement was made by Defence Minister Pirro Vengu following the Ministerial meeting in Brussels.
This development is the result of several years of sustained work and places Albania at the centre of regional security planning, strengthening its role as a strategic hub within the Euro-Atlantic security architecture.
Albania is expected to increase its contribution to the KFOR mission in Kosovo, including, for the first time, the deployment of its Air Force, in coordination with the United States and the relevant commands.
The meeting also addressed the increase of defence investments and the strengthening of Albania’s defence industry, with new contracts signed and additional projects currently under negotiation.
Meanwhile, preparations have begun for the NATO Summit to be held in Tirana in 2027.
