Ermal Nufi takes over as Head of Defense; Armed Forces Modernization and revitalization of the Military Industry a priority

Minister of Defense Ermal Nufi officially assumed office today at the helm of the Ministry of Defense.

During the handover ceremony, Minister Nufi emphasized the responsibility of the institution for national security and for Albania’s role in the international security architecture. He expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by Prime Minister Rama, and acknowledged the contribution of his predecessor Vengu in leading the institution and supporting the  Albanian Armed Forces.

The Minister of Defense stressed that national security is built on the professionalism and dedication of uniformed personnel, commanders, and institutional structures that ensure the effective functioning of the defense system even in times of challenge.

He underlined that the ministry’s main priorities will focus on the modernization of defense capabilities, the development of the military industry, strengthening capacities to respond to civil emergencies, and promoting innovation in the field of defense, in full alignment with NATO standards.

In conclusion, Minister Nufi reaffirmed Albania’s commitment as an active and reliable ally within the Alliance, emphasizing that NATO remains the main guarantee for the country’s security and stability.
