Minister Xhaçka with Albanian troops in Afghanistan: “You have made us proud!”

During her stay in Kabul, Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka met with Albanian military members at NATO's RSM Headquarters and at Hamid Karzai International Airport, where Contingent VI is carrying out its mission.

"We are all grateful for your contribution and your dignified representation alongside other NATO allied countries. On this eve of 105th Anniversary of Declaration of Independence, it is an extraordinary emotion that I am here to convey my and the Rama Government support for you and your families. You make us proud every day here in Afghanistan, as well as every Armed Forces member at home and abroad!" - said the Minister, during the festive ceremony on the occasion of November holidays.

Minister Xhaçka in Kabul: We will increase by 60% our presence in Afghanistan

Next year, Albania will increase its presence in Afghanistan by 60%. This increase was confirmed by Defence Minister Xhaçka during her 24-hour visit to the country. She said also that it will be also a contingent from the Special Forces among them.

Minister Xhaçka was received at a special meeting by the NATO Resolute Support Mission Commander, General John Nicholson, who after appreciating the contribution of the Albanian troops to Afghanistan from 2002, said, among other things: "Congratulations, Mrs. Minister, for the contribution of your country. In my staff I have many officers, and I'm glad to admit that Albanian officers are the most qualified."

Intervention during emergencies, Defense Minister: Support for our military members

Defense Minister Xhaçka visited the Burrel Regional Support Detachment, whose military members cope with Search and Rescue (SAR) operations, as well as Civil Emergencies in the districts of Lezha district and Dibra.
"I can say with great pride that we offer today what no one else can offer. We are those who, the AAF are those who intervene when everyone else surrenders, when all the others put their hands up because they cannot do anything in conditions of Civil Emergencies, when weather conditions cause isolation on some residential centers, which need our care and commitment to address them. AF do what local and central government cannot do; and our message is that we will always be by the side of the citizens on their most difficult day," - said Minister Xhaçka.

Albania cleans up war graves after decades of neglect

Albania has launched a nationwide drive to renovate the long-neglected cemeteries of its war dead in the run-up to 29 November, the anniversary of the country's liberation from German occupation.

Defence Minister Olta Xhacka made the announcement during a tour of a cemetery in Peshkopi, the site of several resistance battles against Italian and later German forces during the Second World War.

The work is being carried out by local authorities and the army, and involves clearing overgrown shrubbery, restoring cracked marble and tiles, and repaving walkways.
