Women at War - 100 years of women on the front line

In a year that sees combat roles within the UK military routinely opened to women, the Royal Navy, British Army and Royal Air Force are celebrating the centenary of women serving at the forefront of conflict.

Female Army nurses set a precedent in 1917, deploying to France to provide critical front-line medical care and thus setting in motion the changes that finds female sailors, soldiers and air-women serving across the globe, in all roles, alongside their male counterparts.

Minister Kodheli official visit to USA

On 27-31 October 2014, Defence Minister Mimi Kodheli held an official visit to the United States of America invited by the U.S. Secretary of Defence, Mr. Chuck Hagel. During this intensive visit, the Minister of Defence held meetings at the National Guard of New Jersey, Atlantic Council, at the State and Defence Department. At the end of her visit in USA, Minister Kodheli gave an interview to the “Voice of America”.

Comprehensive Regional Ministerial

The Comprehensive Regional Ministerial was held in Budva, Montenegro (14 - 16 October 2014) including three formats:

October 14 - Western Balkans Defence Policy Directors meeting - WBDPD,
October 15 - U.S. - Adriatic Charter chaired by Albania, and
October 16 - South-Eastern Europe Defence Ministerial (SEDM) chaired by Romania.

NATO Defence Ministers meetings in Brussels

26 - 27 February 2014

NATO Defence Ministers agreed on Wednesday (26 February 2014) to move ahead with plans to improve a set of defence capabilities which are key to dealing with future security challenges. NATO Secretary General, Mr. Anders Fogh Rasmussen said: “Through our operations, including Libya and Afghanistan, we have identified the areas where our capabilities do not go far enough or too few countries have them.”

Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli emphasized Albania’s commitment, as member of the Alliance in all dimensions, in the service of global security and as part of joint efforts for a stronger and more efficient organization.

Armed Forces operation for litter collection

Immediately after the decision taken from the inter-ministerial committee to declare the state of emergency for the environment situation, the Ministry of Defence and General Staff of the Armed Forces were engaged in several national roads, mainly in the area of Lezha-Shkodra, in the national roads: Hani i Hotit - Shkodra; Muriqan - Shkodra; Ura e Bunës - Shirokë; Shkodra – Lezhë - Milot. During the day, the Armed Forces have cleared 76 km of roads, while the collected wastes were transported by the Armed Forces’ vehicles toward their collection sites.

Defence Minister Kodheli official visit to Turkey

At the meeting Minister Kodheli had with the Minister of Defence of Turkey, Mr. Ismet Yilmaz, it was highlighted the excellent level of relations between our two countries, and discussions focused on finding potentialities to further enhance them. The Turkish Defence Minister stated that, Turkey sees Albania as a key partner and its biggest ally. In this context, on behalf of the Turkish government, Mr. Yilmaz assured Minister Kodheli for Turkey’s unquestionable support to Albania for the status of candidate country in EU.

Defence Minister Kodheli official visit to Greece, 14-15 January 2014

Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli held, on January 14-15, a two-day official visit to Athens, invited by the Minister of Defence of Greece, Mr. Dimitris Avramopoulos.
At the start of the visit, Minister Kodheli was received in a special meeting by the Prime Minister of Greece, Mr. Antonis Samaras. Mr. Samaras welcomed Mrs. Kodheli and congratulated her for the office of Minister of Defence of Albania. “Being a female defence minister means a lot and this is a very strong message”, - said Greek Prime Minister.
