Defence Minister Kodheli at the Parlamentary Committee on Legal Issues

At today’s Legal Issues Committee meeting, it was discussed and approved the “Military and Financial Cooperation Agreement between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the Government of the Republic of Turkey”, and the “Protocol on the implementation of financial assistance between the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania and the Government of the Republic of Turkey”. This agreement is proposed by the Turkish side as continuation of the annual aid Turkish State provides for the modernization of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania. The Military and Financial Cooperation Agreement donates approximately 1,137,500 US dollars to the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Albania.

Defence Minister Kodheli: Gërdec tragedy will not happen again!

The Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli accompanied by Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Jeronim Bazo, on the occasion of the 6th anniversary of Gërdec tragedy, inspected the area where the explosion occurred, killing 26 people and injuring hundreds. Minister Kodheli closely inspected the work being carried out to clear the area from the remnants of ammunition, and promised its rehabilitation as soon as possible. In memory of the victims of the explosion of March 15, 2008, Minister Kodheli placed a wreath at the memorial of the fallen. Then, Defence Minister Mrs. Mimi Kodheli gave a statement to the media.

Mrs. Kodheli, your comment as Defence Minister regarding the Strategy and today’s National Security Council meeting?

First, let me tell you that the National Security Council meeting is an advisory organ to the President, while the Government’s program, for our first 300 days, has clearly defined the terms of preparation of all strategic documents, from the National Security document to the Military Strategy and Long-Term Development Plan of the Armed Forces, all of them within this year. It was very important for us to push this process, which unfortunately was already outdated, as you mentioned in your insert. The Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence have worked in the last 10 years with an outdated strategy and a strategy that did not reflect important events that occurred in Albanian politics and not, such as Albania’s membership in NATO, in 2009.

OSCE mission in Crimea

We would like to inform the public that Albania has decided to contribute two observers to the OSCE mission in Crimea.

At the request of Ukraine, and pursuant to Chapter III of the Vienna Document on Confidence and Security Building Measures of 2011, the mission consists of more than 25 OSCE member countries, including the U.S., European countries and representatives of the Centre for Conflict Prevention of the OSCE.

Celebration of International Women’s Day at the Ministry of Defence

Minister Kodheli:I wish health to you, to your families, to your beloved ones, to you children, who are probably the reason why we get up, dress and struggle every day, which is really the most extraordinary thing that can happen to a woman, having a family, having our genetic and spiritual heritage, in order to make Albanian society even more prosperous, strong and healthy.

This morning, in premises of the Ministry of Defence, it was held a festive ceremony on the occasion of March 8, the International Women’s Day.
In the crowded auditorium with girls and women who serve in uniform, but also with civil employees of the Armed Forces, a festive and quite impressive atmosphere was created. The event was made even more beautiful and festive by the presence of the Minister of Defence, Mrs. Mimi Kodheli, Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Major General Jeronim Bazo, directors and other senior officers of the Ministry of Defence and General Staff, as well as of many former military women who have served for years in Armed Forces structures.
