The situation of wildfires, Minister Peleshi thanks EU and the member states for their support

The Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Czech Republic's support via the Civil Protection Mechanism of the EU, has proven to be essential in coping with the wildfire situation in our country during August.

In an event organized at the military part of the International Airport "Mother Teresa", the Minister of Defense Niko Peleshi started his speech by expressing his condolences for the loss of two lives, which he considered irreplaceable.
In the presence of the Head of the Political Section of the EU Delegation in Tirana, Alexis Hupin, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Jaroslav Ludva, the Deputy Ambassador of Netherlands, Rogier Nouwen, Minister Peleshi thanked the governments of the respective countries for their assistance and provided an overview of the general situation during this period.

Active wildfires today, August 10, at 23:00

1) Vlora. The wildfire, on the Karaburun Peninsula and Dukat, Orikum Administrative Unit, still continues. The Forces continue to work intensively. The situation is still problematic in some areas. Llogara is not endangered and neither is the village of Dukat. Two aircrafts and the Forces will start working tomorrow.

Current situation in the country, 2 critical wildfires, 8 are under monitoring.

After almost two weeks “fighting” wildfires, today marks the quietest day. Thanks to the Armed Forces, firefighters and Civil Emergencies at the local government, it has become possible to extinguish many aggressive fires in different areas of the country.

Today, through coordination with the National Agency for Civil Protection, 15 fires have been extinguished, but there are still another 10 active. The wildfires in Karaburun and Maja e Rrunes are hotspots with higher intensity

3 helicopters arrive from the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, assistance from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism

3 helicopters have arrived at Rinas Airport, from the Netherlands and the Czech Republic, part of the support that the two countries are giving to Albania, in the framework of the activation of the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism, to extinguish fires in the territory of Albania.

The helicopters were received at the "Mother Teresa" airport by Deputy Defence Minister Dallëndyshe Bici, the director of the Civil Protection Agency Haki Çako, representatives of the respective embassies, the political chief of the EU Delegation in Tirana Alexis Hupin.
