Armed Forces deployed to copy with the floods

The situation in Eastern and Central Albania is normalizing and there are improvments in Lezha. Shkodra is under constant observation by both local and central structures. The Armed Forces are enabling the movement of residents from flooded areas. The Armed Force is transporting food parcels from the State Reserves to the affected areas.

All hydropower plants in the regions of Shkodra, Lezha and Durrës operate at full capacity. There aren’t any evacuated families in Shkodra, even though 4080 ha of land have been flooded.

Defence Minister inspected the flooded areas: Increased military readiness, everything is under control

Defence Minister Niko Peleshi early this morning inspected the flooded areas in Shkoder and Lezhe. In Kallmet, Lezhw, he underlined that the situation was now improved in the last 24 hours.. This was the result of the water level diminishing, one of the reasons was the good performance from all the responsible institutions in recent years.

“The withdrawal of water and this improvement of the situation comes from the well done job in recent years, the cleaning of irrigation and drainage canals. The rapid withdrawal of water as soon as the rainfall stopped, shows that the investments are functional. I want to greet the local Government, the Municipality, the Mayor for they good work." , - said Minister Peleshi.

Floods, AF doubles the capacities to assist the residents

The Ministry of Defense and the National Agency of Civil Emergencies are closely monitoring the situation created by the recent rains.
At the request of Shkodra Municipality, Forces of the First Infantry Battalion are available to any transportation and evacuation needed in Obot village of the administrative unit of “Ana e Malit”. Currently, there are some partly floods in Kuç village, while the inflows of Kir and Gjader river have been increased. In the surface of certain lands, the water level goes up to 30 cm.

Niko Peleshi the newly appointed Defence Minister

Mr. Niko Peleshi took office as Defence Minister. His predecessor Mrs. Olta Xhaçka, will serve as Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs.

The newly appointed Minister was received with an official ceremony by the Honor Guard and the Wind Orchestra of the Armed Forces.

Xhaçka in a video conference with the military troop on missions: I will be the biggest advocate for any member of the Armed Forces

Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka conducted an online conversation with the high representatives in NATO and peacekeeping missions in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Latvia, South Sudan and Bosnia and Herzegovina. After her holiday greetings, the Defence Minister showed concern about the effectives health and their family members during this difficult time.
