Corporal Zarife Hasanaj, Martyr of the Homeland was bidden farewell with the highest military and state honors, and will eternally rest in peace at the Cemetery of the Homeland Martyrs in Tirana. 

Corporal Zarife Hasanaj, part of the EOD Company, fell in line of duty during the NATO Mission in Latvia.

The body of the Homeland Martyr, Corporal Zarife Hasanaj, arrives home

The lifeless body of the Homeland’s Martyr, Corporal Zarife Hasanaj, who fell while in line of duty during the NATO mission in Latvia, arrived in her native land.

The coffin with Corporal Hasanaj’s body, covered with the National Flag, was transported by military aircraft from Latvia and it was accompanied by her Albanian, Canadian and Latvian colleagues of the NATO Battalion-size group.

Minister Xhaçka, paid a condolence visit to the family of the Homeland Martyr, Corporal Hasanaj

Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka, back home from Riga, paid a condolence visit to the family of Corporal Zarife Hasanaj, who fell in line of duty during the NATO mission in Latvia.

Your pain is also ours. You are part of the great military family. You will have our support for every need. The loss of Zarife’s life is a great loss for us all,” - said Minister Xhaçka.

Minister Xhaçka, also, informed the family members of Corporal Zarife Hasanaj that their beloved daughter was declared “Martyr of Homeland”.

Latvia, Minister Xhaçka meets Albanian Contingent after the painful incident at Military Base

Less than 24 hours from the event at Camp Adazi in Latvia, Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka traveled to Riga to visit the 4th EOD Contingent and meet with base leaders where, since 2017, Albania is represented by its troops as part of NATO's “enhanced Forward Presence” Mission.

Initially, Minister Xhaçka visited the two injured effectives, one of whom, Major Klodian Tanushi, in critic health condition at the Riga East University Hospital. The Defense Minister met with doctors who are attentively following the situation of Major Tanushi.

Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka visits the two injured effectives in NATO’s eFP mission in Latvia

Defense Minister Olta Xhaçka visited today the two EOD contingent effectives, injured a day earlier by the explosion of some ammunition during military operations in the NATO mission in Latvia.
Minister Xhaçka was closely informed on the health condition of Major Klodian Tanushi, who is at Riga East University Hospital under intensive medical supervision.
Also, Minister Xhaçka visited Sergeant Julian Kapaj, who is currently in Camp Adazi Military Base Hospital in Latvia. His health conditions are very good.
