Albania 10 years in NATO, Xhaçka: Just as for the Alliance we will be asset and partner even for the EU

Albania celebrated the 10th Anniversary of NATO Membership in a ceremony at Mother Teresa Square in Tirana, attended by President of the Republic Ilir Meta, Prime Minister Edi Rama, Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka, the Italian Defence Minister Elisabeta Trenta, the North Macedonian Defence Minister Radmila Sekerinska and Defence Minister of the Republic of Kosovo Rrustem Berisha.

The ceremony was also attended by the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces, Brigadier General Bardhyl Kollçaku, his Turkish and Greek counterparts, as well as many guests.

10 years NATO Member, Xhaçka: Albania, strategic asset in the region


A decade after NATO membership, Albania has managed to be a reliable partner and a strategic asset in the region for the North Atlantic Alliance. These were the introducing words, that Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka addressed the representatives from member countries of the Alliance, invited to a gala evening that precedes some activities which will be held on March 29th on the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Albania's Membership in NATO.

10 years ago Albania was accepted as a member of the largest military Alliance that history has ever known. Today, a decade later, I am very proud that we have not only justified that expectation, but thanks to our work and contribution, we have managed to become a reliable partner and strategic asset for the Alliance in the region. A partner that is not only working to fulfill its obligations towards NATO, but that for the past 10 years has repeatedly shown that it is willing and able to compensate with dedication and professionalism even those that can be considered as absences or limitations”, - emphasized during the welcoming speech the Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka.

Not denouncing the arsonists on time, makes us all responsible

The Ministry of Defence and the General Directorate of Civil Emergencies are following with concern the unusual situation of recent days when dozens of fires have covered multiple areas, in some administrative units in almost all prefectures.
From March 3 to this day, i.e. in 22 days, there have been detected 69 fires, which have burned 167 hectares, pastures, orchards and forests, considered as protected areas, resulting in enormous consequences such as in economy as well as in the environment.
According to the analysis performed by the General Directorate of Civil Emergencies, in all cases, this situation, which, I repeat, is unusual for the season is deliberately triggered. All fires have been ignited by humans, aiming at the burning of shrubs, thorns and dried herbs for the opening of new land for pastures or the creation of construction sites.

55 years Archive of Armed Forces, Xhaçka: Guardian of Historical Memory

The Central Archive of the Armed Forces (CAAF) marks the 55th Anniversary of Foundation , by recording 516 archival funds and a 35 million-sheet records . Defence Minister Olta Xhaçka, who was present at the ceremony organized at the premises of the National Museum, described the Archives as guardian of historical memory and values of the Armed Forces.
